Boiler Room & Pump House Floor Upgrade – Hazel Grove

Improving Safety & Durability in a Critical Plant Area

Industrial Safety Products Limited (ISP Ltd) recently completed a specialist floor upgrade within a boiler room and pump house in Hazel Grove, delivering a safer, more durable surface designed to withstand the demands of a live mechanical environment.

Plant rooms such as these are high-risk areas, often exposed to moisture, temperature fluctuations, and heavy maintenance traffic. Our brief was to improve slip resistance, visibility, and long-term durability while minimising disruption to site operations.

Floor Preparation – Vacuum Assisted Diamond Grinding

As with all high-performance resin flooring systems, correct preparation is critical.

The existing concrete substrate was mechanically prepared using vacuum assisted diamond grinding, which allowed us to:

  • Remove surface contaminants and weak laitance
  • Create the correct surface profile for epoxy adhesion
  • Control dust levels for a cleaner, safer working environment

This method ensures maximum bond strength between the concrete and the new epoxy system, significantly extending the lifespan of the floor.

Epoxy Primer & Anti-Slip Epoxy Floor System

Following preparation, an epoxy primer was applied to seal the substrate and enhance adhesion. This was followed by a mid-grey anti-slip epoxy floor coating, chosen specifically for:

  • Improved slip resistance in a plant room environment
  • High chemical and wear resistance
  • Easy cleaning and ongoing maintenance
  • A professional, uniform finish suitable for technical areas

The mid-grey colour provides a clean, neutral base while helping to visually identify debris, leaks, or maintenance issues.

High-Visibility Plinth Edge Markings

To further enhance safety, yellow edge markings were applied to the raised plinths supporting plant and equipment.

These high-visibility edges:

  • Clearly define changes in level
  • Reduce trip hazards
  • Improve spatial awareness for maintenance engineers

This simple but effective addition plays a key role in improving overall site safety, particularly in low-light or high-activity areas.

The Result

The completed floor provides the client with:

  • A durable, anti-slip surface suitable for a boiler room and pump house
  • Improved safety and visibility around critical equipment
  • A long-lasting, professional finish designed for industrial use

All works were completed efficiently and in line with best practice for resin flooring installations in operational environments.
